Once we were bitten by the Bully "bug" we decided one was not enough. After seeing pictures of Petey's dad, Black Rhino from Friar's Point, I decided I wanted my next mini to be a son of Rhino. Rhino has since become a World Champion, beating 71 other Minis for Best of Breed at the 2003 World Dog Show in Dortmund, Germany. Petey was born on 8/23/02 in the Netherlands. His breeder is Thea Jacobs of Friar's Point minibulls. Petey flew over to join us at 9 weeks old. He has grown into a beautiful dog with a wonderful temperment. He loves to play but also loves to cuddle, and can be a bit of a "mama's boy" always wanting to lay in my lap. Petey and Leilani are the best of friends. Petey was shown a couple of times as a puppy, but he was a late bloomer so I stopped showing and let him mature. At the end of March, 2005, he made his adult showring debut and has in just a handful of shows accumulated 4 points towards his AKC championship. In August 2005 Petey was diagnosed (we now believe misdiagnosed) with PLL (subluxation) and he was retired from showing. For the past two years he has remained our happy man around the house, we have never seen signs of trouble with his eyes although I have kept a close check on him since the diagnosis. I had his eyes checked on 11/19/07 by a different opthalmologist, Michael J. Ringle DVM, diplomate ACVO, and he said he sees no signs whatsoever of lens subluxation or luxation (link below to report). The original diagnosis report can be seen here: Petey 8/05 eye report. On 1/6/08, Petey was checked again, this time by Dr. Bradford J. Holmberg, and given a clear CERF report (see below for link to the report). Finally we can happily report our boy Petey does not have PLL. We are thrilled about this news as you can imagine! But in the meantime we are sorry that for two years we have operated with a misdiagnosis, and we're sorry for the effects this may have had on the breeding program or reputation of Petey's breeders at Friar's Point and any of his relatives. *Update: Petey has had the following health tests: Eyes: NEW CERF report- normal January 2008, also Dr. Ringle's report November 2007 Check out Petey's OFA page: The Dutchman from Friar's Point
